U.S. Air Force Gets AI Boost for Hypersonic Aircraft
April 22, 2024
MSBAI, an Air Force Techstars 2020 company, successfully completed its AFWERX Phase 2 SBIR contract, titled GURU Owns the Modeling and Simulation Tech Stack. This milestone represents a significant advancement in the U.S. Air Force’s digital engineering capabilities for next-generation supersonic and hypersonic aircraft development.
MSBAI's GURU Platform Transforms Air Force Simulations
In a groundbreaking development awarded under the 2021 Air Force ‘Digital Engineering Pitch Day’ initiative, MSBAI has unveiled a game-changing autonomous solution. Our GURU platform has the power to set up Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations for high-speed aircraft in mere minutes, a feat that traditionally consumed hours. This leap in efficiency directly addresses the U.S. Department of Defense’s call to expedite AI adoption, echoing the sentiments of Dr. William W. Streilein, Chief Technology Officer for DoD’s Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO).
The ‘Digital Engineering Pitch Day’ initiative, conceived to pinpoint and accelerate the development of innovative digital engineering capabilities beneficial to the U.S. Air Force, has borne fruit with MSBAI’s pioneering solution. Spearheaded by AFWERX, the innovation arm of the Department of the Air Force, and powered by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), this endeavor sought out solutions to propel the Air Force’s digital transformation, enhancing their ability to swiftly design, develop, test, and deploy new systems. Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett emphasized, “Digital engineering isn’t an option … It’s essential. It’s faster, it’s cheaper, it’s better.”
